THE SOCIAL CLASSES
The social classes of Sumer had an upper class, a middle class, and a lower class. The king, the nobles and the priests were part of the upper class. The middle class included the scribe (a person who knew how to read and write), a merchant, and a craftsworker. The lower class consisted of laborers, unskilled workers, and slaves.
